Famed NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson’s home is featured in the April/May issue of Garden & Gun. He and his wife Chandra, owner of a contemporary art gallery and book shop, worked with talented designer Barrie Benson to freshen their home’s look, which with its gray and dark green palette was “too heavy and serious for such a fun couple”. By blending Chandra’s passion for collecting contemporary art and mid-Century modern furniture, with the traditional structure of the home and some well-chosen antiques, Benson skillfully found that magic mix of modern and traditional that is so appealing to design sophisticates today.
Benson also incorporated some items that are inspired by antiques, but are made today, including William Yeoward Crystal’s Pearl Goblets and Pearl Double Old-Fashioned Tumblers. The Pearl glasses sparkle in the lovely bar area, with its large-scale floral wallpaper, blond wood shelving, rattan bar tray, white marble countertop, and deep turquoise blue cabinet with modern gold drawer pulls. It all comes together unexpectedly yet beautifully, which can be said for the other rooms of the house as well. It is a home that is cheerful and welcoming, and “functional, never fussy”, a place where Jimmie and Chandra can be at ease and relax with their two young daughters, Evie and Lydia. We are pleased to be part of “the mix” at the Johnson’s!
Pearl is one of William Yeoward Crystal’s best-known and loved patterns – see more drinkware and many giftware items in the Pearl pattern HERE.
