This
Silverware is delivered to you with a high polish.
As the silver is used, the original shine will
be replaced by a “patina” or multitude
of very fine scratches, which gives Sterling Silver
much of its beauty and aesthetic appeal.
Tarnish occurs when silver reacts
with sulphur which occurs naturally in the atmosphere
and which is present in certain foods (notably
eggs).
TO KEEP
YOUR STERLING SILVER IN BEAUTIFUL CONDITION, PLEASE
NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
If you use your silverware frequently, tarnish
is unlikely to be a problem; just wash the silver
regularly in warm soapy water, rinse in clean
water and dry with a soft cloth. Delay in washing
after use and in drying after washing can lead
to discolouration from food and liquid residues.
The Stainless Steel knife blades
are prone to the formation of watermarks if not
dried immediately after washing.
Regular washing in dishwashers
is not recommended as the relatively soft Sterling
Silver may become marked in such a harsh environment.
If your Sterling Silver is used
only infrequently, the formation of tarnish can
be minimised by keeping the silver in an airtight
box or other container. To prevent damage caused
by the pieces rubbing together it is advisable
to keep silver in the original cloth sleeves.
When your silver requires cleaning
this can be done by gentle polishing with a soft
cloth and a proprietary cleaner; this should be
followed by washing in warm soapy water, then
drying and polishing with a soft dry cloth.
If Silver Dip is used for cleaning
your silver; do not use it on the knives, as this
type of product will discolour the steel blades.
Knives should be cleaned with an alternative type
of traditional silver polish.
Follow these suggestions and
your silverware will become more beautiful with
use, acquiring in time the same patina as antique
silver. |
